The Cultural and Social Development Project

Project Goals

• Enriching the digital archives is an important means to bridge the digital divide.
•  Working with the third sector, namely the non-profit citizen and community organizations, to promote the digital archives.
•  Improving public access to the Digital Archives and emphasizing the dimensions of information ethics and user interface.

Three Core Tasks

Implementation Strategies

Digital Divide, Public and Community participation in Digital Archives

• Cooperating with the third sector to build a dynamic network for the purpose of promoting the Digital Archives.
• Holding training workshops for dis-advantaged minorities in different region of Taiwan and helping them to overcome the obstacle for access to the digital archives.
• Surveying the uses of digital archives among the disadvantaged minorities.
• Understanding the current state of digital divide and the condition unfavorable to digital archives promotion.
• Producing academic research reports.
• Working with some public-spirited citizen and community groups to establish participatory digital archives and produce digital records.

Information Ethics and Digital Right in the need of Digital Archive promotion

• Collecting materials from WSIS, ITU, and UNESCO and international forums and conferences working on issues of information ethics and digital human rights.

•  Establishing the evaluation system regarding the dimensions of information ethics and digital human right of Digital Archive.

Improve the Interaction Design of Future Digital Archive Platforms

• The third part of our implementation strategies will focus on the user interface, aiming to systematically establish user profiles, reveal users' needs, and generate possible interface improvements for some online digital archives。

What has been archived in 2007

• Research:4 conference papers
• Staff training:4 research assistants completed studies for Master's Degree
• conference:1 conference held in late 2007.
• video records:150 records for the year of 2007

What has been archived in 2008

•  Research : Writing 2-3 thesis
• Staff Training : 2-4 research assistants completed studies for Master's Degrees.
•  Research Reports : 1 fieldwork report.
                                        2 literature review. 
  1-2 articles on evaluation systems of  information ethics as well as user interfaces.   

• Information Service : 1-2 workshops for promoting the digital archive of citizen
  actions.

• Database : Cooperating with NGOs to record a variety of citizen actions and maintain a digital archive as such, with the aim of public visits to the website reaching 30,000.
